Today on Meet the Maker, we're chatting with Jill Taft, the founder of Logic Products. We're always on the hunt for eco-friendly grooming and cleaning products for our pups and our home, so we were thrilled to discover BarkLogic—Logic Products' non-toxic pet line. We quizzed Jill about her inspiration and what pet parents should know when reading ingredient labels.
What led you to create Logic Products?
I unexpectedly started Logic Products when my daughter came home from school with a bad case of head lice. I wanted to find a non-toxic and effective lice treatment product. I wasn't happy with the choices in the marketplace, so I decided to do some serious research and was able to launch my first line, LiceLogic. It's a highly effective and non-toxic lice elimination and lice prevention line. From there, brand extensions organically happened. I started to get a lot of calls from parents asking for everyday body, bath and hair care products for their babies and kids, so I launched TotLogic, an everyday plant-based line of lush and non-toxic body, bath, and haircare products.
What inspired you to add a line of products for dogs?
As Logic Products grew, existing customers started to call from all over the country asking for products for their dogs. I believe that dogs are cherished members of the family and deserve the best, so I decided to create BarkLogic, a premium human-grade, non-toxic, and eco-friendly line of shampoos, conditioners, and sprays for dogs and puppies. I wanted to provide an upscale, gentle, and safe grooming solution, so all BarkLogic products are void of harsh ingredients. They're all naturally scented and infused with natural essential oils to provide coat and skin benefits, along with aromatherapeutic benefits for dogs and their caregivers.
What's your favorite BarkLogic product?
I love all of them, but if I had to pick just one, it would be our 2 in 1 Shampoos which are available in Calming Lavender, Sensitive Skin Tangerine, Deodorizing Lemon, and Refreshing Mint. You can wash and condition your pet in one easy step—the product rinses away completely, leaving behind a clean and soft coat with a light natural scent.

What do you wish pet parents knew about shopping for dog grooming products?
Not all dog grooming products are created equal. Always look at the ingredients and try to choose a product that is sulfate-free and doesn't contain harsh ingredients like PEG,DEA, Parabens, and Phthalates. Also, try to choose a product that is free of artificial fragrances and perfumes. Artificial fragrances can be very irritating and toxic. Just because a product has a highly pleasant fragrance, it doesn't mean that it's good for you or your pet. Manufacturers can hide hundreds of toxic ingredients in the word “fragrance.” For safety reasons, always choose a brand that discloses all of its ingredients.

Tell us about your pets.
I have two rescue cats—Rose, a polydactyl, and a kitten named Timon. My kids picked them out during our summer travels in Vermont. I've had dogs my entire life and absolutely love them. Even though I don't currently have a dog, I purposely live in a building in Brooklyn that has a dog walk and dog wash in the building, so I get my daily dose of all breeds and sizes of dogs.
Any exciting upcoming plans for BarkLogic?
We have plans to announce our groomers program at the upcoming pet trade show, Super Zoo, where we will introduce our new gallon sizes.
What's the most rewarding part of your work?
By far the most rewarding part is hearing from our passionate and intelligent customers, and knowing that we are putting safe, non-toxic, and eco-friendly products into the marketplace that are helping people and their pets live healthier lives 🐾
