It’s couch season!
Here’s a fun fact about me—I’ve had four different SAD lamps during the course of my life. I tried a budget option, a special Vitamin D lightbulb, a fancy one I bought myself, and a fancy one my mother-in-law bought me.
But did any of them make me feel less depressed about the dreariness of January? I don’t really think so.
As I’ve gotten older—and hopefully wiser?—I’ve discovered that the best way for me to survive the winter is to really lean into the season. I try to enjoy the coziness of this time of year. I stock up on candles, I prioritize puppy snuggles, I try new soup recipes, I buy myself an overpriced pair of slippers, and I do a lot of face masks. I think of it as a sort of hibernation season—prioritizing the sleep, self-care, and small pleasures that get skipped over during the rush of the holidays. It helps me recharge and I end up feeling like the winter was a treat, rather than a trial.
