Bringing a Dog to Semiahmoo Beach Resort: A Review of Semiahmoo

Because I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, there’s something about the Washington coast that just fills my heart with joy. I mean, how many places are there where you can see snowy mountain tops from the beach? For me, one of the most exciting parts about moving back to Seattle from NYC has been knowing that we’ll have more opportunities to pack the dogs into the car and drive to the beach.

Last weekend, we made a spontaneous decision to give the pups their first PNW beach experience by booking a weekend stay at Semiahmoo Resort. I’ve always wanted to plan a trip to Semiahmoo, which is located on a stunning spit of land right next to the U.S.-Canada border. Basically, that means there’s water on every side and views for days.

And, not only is the resort dog-friendly, but they also offer a VIP Pooch Package. The pups got their own souvenir bandana, toy, and water bowl. I really appreciate when hotels don’t just tolerate dogs, but actually make it easy for pet owners to bring them along. Way too many hotels allow dogs, but have rules against leaving them in the room unattended, which can make dining out really difficult. I loved that we could crate our dogs and go out to dinner knowing they were safely snoozing. Plus, in warm weather, the hotel’s outdoor dining area welcomes dogs.

I’d definitely head to Semiahmoo for a dog-friendly getaway again. Our stay was absolutely wonderful—we took the pups for long beach walks, watched the sun set while eating fresh seafood, and drank morning coffee on our little beach-view balcony. It was the perfect start to our new life in the PNW.
